Microneedling

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure for your skin. It’s also referred to as collagen induction therapy and is used to improve the appearance of a wide range of common skin complaints.

Microneedling works by using thin, sterile needles to create tiny channels into the top layer of your skin. These micro-injuries help stimulate your skin’s healing process, so it produces more collagen and elastin. These proteins keep your skin firm and smooth.

What kinds of skin issues can microneedling improve?

Microneedling can improve the appearance of several different skin conditions, all with the same treatment.

Some of the issues that microneedling can treat include:

  • Acne

  • Poor skin elasticity

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Stretch marks

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Enlarged pores

  • Sun damage

  • Poor skin tone or texture

During your consultation, you can discuss your treatment goals with your provider. They will guide you toward the options best suited for your needs and explain how microneedling can help.

What is the recovery process after microneedling?

A degree of swelling, redness, and tenderness is to be expected after microneedling. There is no significant pain associated with the treatment itself or the recovery process.

Over-the-counter pain medication can reduce discomfort if needed. Within a couple of days, your skin will feel normal. It’s important to use a high-quality sunscreen to protect your skin after microneedling.

It takes time to see the results of microneedling. In the weeks following your treatment, your body will produce new collagen, and you’ll begin to notice a plumping and smoothing effect. While you’ll see a difference after just one treatment, a series of microneedling treatments is often needed for optimal results.
